Battery Packs

Satlantic has designed a series of submersible battery packs to support long-term deployments of our sensors and systems.

Satlantic Battery Packs are designed to power sensor systems for the carefully planned duration of deployments. To meet this objective, a battery pack must be of sound design and quality construction to operate in the deployment environment reliably, and it must be appropriately matched, in terms of capacity and battery chemistry, to the sensor system, environmental conditions, operating schedule and duration of the deployment. To specify a battery pack for an application, it is necessary to ascertain the following parameters of the load:

  • voltage range
  • current
  • duty cycle
  • ambient temperature
  • required endurance

500 m Submersible D-CELL Battery Pack: Features an anodized aluminum pressure case with Acetal end caps and Delrin pressure release valve (500 m depth rating). The connector is a Subconn wet pluggable connector. Battery packs are 15 VDC for powering Satlantic equipment ; 13.5 VDC version also available for integration of WET Labs equipment.

1000 m Submersible D-CELL Battery Pack: Features an anodized aluminum pressure case with Delrin pressure release valve (1000 m depth rating). The connector is a Subconn wet pluggable connector. Battery packs are 15 VDC for powering Satlantic equipment ; 13.5 VDC version also available for integration of Wet Labs equipment.

The current design Battery Pack accepts individual d-cells. The internal chassis guides the d-cells into six stacks. The bottom contacter plate is equipped with springs for the negative contacts, and the top contactor plate is equipped with flat contacts for the positive contacts. A circuit board which has fuses and diodes to protect the battery stacks is mounted on the top contactor plate. The Battery Pack endcap is connected to the circuit board. This configuration has the advantage of allowing the user to locally source replacement batteries at considerably lower cost (<1/10) than the shrink wrapped packs.

Satlantic's reliable and user-friendly Alkaline Battery Packs are available in 102 Ah (ASY-BAT-00025 15V, 102Ah) and 51 Ah (ASY-BAT-00020 15V, 51Ah) capacities. The design of the internal battery compartment allows the user to easily change the D-Cell batteries with off-the-shelf replacements. The battery packs consist of an anodized aluminum pressure case, a D-cell battery compartment and a removable end-cap.

Please Note:
The PRV (pressure relief valve) adjusting valve has been removed for transportation. Inspect the o-ring surfaces of the adjusting valve and the PRV housing for damage or debris and clean if necessary.
