Satlantic was founded in 1990 by Dr. Marlon Lewis of Dalhousie University to satisfy the emerging need for precision optical sensors for ocean color satellite calibration and validation research. Satlantic’s optical sensor product line evolved from the original ocean color radiometers to full optical profiling and surface acquisition systems.
From the early stages as an optical sensor company, Satlantic developed collaborative research and development relationships with several world-renowned research institutes such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, Rutgers University and the University of Southern California. As a result of these relationships, Satlantic has grown to include a full line of sensors and mooring systems for water quality monitoring and photosynthesis research.
Over the course of our 20 year evolution, we have earned a reputation for innovation, outstanding quality and diligent support that has positioned us as a leader in the ocean sciences community. Satlantic has a long track record of successful commercialization of science from the world's leading research institutions and will continue to progressively fund development of new environmental monitoring technology based on leading research.
Satlantic is located directly on Halifax harbour with excellent access to deep ocean waters for testing and development of novel technologies. Virtually all of our design, assembly and testing is performed here at our waterfront facility.
